1961 Triumph TR3 TR3A

RW Auto Classics is proud to present this 1961 Triumph TR3A for you next restoration project. We believe this to be a better than average start for a complete resto and should make for a fun project for the triumph enthusiast.
This car has sat idly for over a decade since it was last ran, and has not been registered since 1983 according to the tabs on the plate. She was pulled from an airplane hanger where the previous owner had big dreams to restore her. Sadly he was never able to find the time to devote to this wonderful project, such is life! But do to being stored inside his hanger the car has weathered better than most.
The body panels on the car are only loosely bolted on, and nothing is properly aligned. There are dings and dents here and there and the body will require some work to get her back to being laser straight. The only rust concerns i see are on both sides of the car in front of the rear wheels and they are not bad considering. The other spot is on the battery box, but limited to the flat panels. There dosent seem to be any need for any major panel replacement. The floors, trunk floor, frame, doors, etc all seem solid. This is a major plus on these old tr3's as they are rust prone. Im sure as you dig into the car there could be spots that need attention but overall i would rate this as a very solid project.
The engine does run but smokes. Supposedly it was rebuilt only 50 miles ago, but sadly has sat for years. The engine runs quite well and revs up nicely, actually the car drives nice, but does smoke. The tranny goes through the gears very well as it was supposedly rebuilt at the same time as the engine, but i can not verify this. Clutch works well as do the brakes. Shifts smoothly and brakes straight. There are a couple water leaks. Overall the running gear seems to be a good starting point, but obviously i would recommend going through all the systems. This is not a jump in and drive car, but i have driven her around the block.
Interior is in obvious need of various repairs, but seems to be complete and functional. Most gauges are working with the exception of the temp gauge. Shows good oil pressure. Horn works as do the wipers.
Being a wire wheel tr3a she is well worth the work and will make a beautiful example when properly repaired. Seems to have been originally a red car. What you see in the pics is what is included. As always im sure i have missed something, so please feel free to call us to discuss the car as we love talking cars around here! Good luck in your classic car hunt
