1974 Datsun 260z Light Blue Metallic Paint and White Interior

Hi everybody! If you’re one of the many on the Z car craze, here is an opportunity to get your hands on the one year only Datsun 260z. She’s every bit the more sought after 240z with some slight differences. This one is a fine example of a… mostly original car. The odometer shows 43K, there is no way to verify this, but some details could lead you to believe it. Matching numbered engine mates with the original manual transmission; some, but not all the paint is original; and the amount of rust being minimal. As far as a running, braking project 260 goes, this is a great place to start.

Let’s dive in, first we begin with the curb appeal of this Z. The paint, code 305 (Light Blue Metallic), is at the point of no return. You might be able to buff it out, but a trip to the paint shop will make a world of difference. The good news, very little rust or body work to attend to. We could not find any bad rust (rust that has gone through the metal) or major dents. All the glass is there and bares the Nissan logo. There is light peppering from the road, but no major cracks. No signs of accidents either and the lights all seem to be working.

Some things that you might not see at first glance… the lower valence is not obliterated. Most of the Z cars with high miles will have a lower valance that is dinged, dented and resembling a rusty piece of swiss cheese. The battery tray is still there! Light surface rust but not too bad. The vin is clear and visible on the fire wall, which leads me to believe that the paint in the engine bay is original. Stickers in the bay and on the underside of the hood suggest the same.

How’s the interior? She has some admirable qualities but also a couple of short comings, we are open to discuss both. The dash is almost perfect, just the one crack above the tach. Plastics are good and usable for a restoration project. Many of the gauges are in working order, the tach is not one of them. Choke works, and the light turns on. A nice touch to originality, the Hitachi radio! It powers on, but no sound as the speakers aren’t hooked up. The seats appear original as well, but the driver’s seat is in desperate need of repair. Carpet must go and there are splits and stains in the white vinyl. The door cards are intact but will need a re-dye.

Under the hood. The engine on cold start up slowly builds courage. 5 or 10 minutes of idling and she pulls around without great hesitation. Without the warmup, it’s a bit herky jerky. The Hitachi carbs aren’t a personal favorite of mine and may be the culprit. The transmission shifts smoothly. The engine bay where the L26 resides is a reasonably clean home. The paint in the bay could even be cleaned and buffed out to a high level.

For those of you looking for a quality project that will mature in value with the Z car family, you have found it. For more details, please have a look through the many pictures below. THE CAR IS SOLD AS IS, NO WARRANTIES. So please ask any and all questions, we welcome people to visit us out on the farm in the classic car barn. We are putting this up on a No Reserve Auction, so gooooood luck!
